Murtaza was born and brought up in Nashik, western India. While at high school he did an electronics project that would help the blind identify colors and was amazed to see the impact of technology. He decided to pursue electronics engineering as a product development engineer at Siemens. However, he quickly realized that in order to move into more impact-full roles, he would need to learn business skills. And so he quit his job and decided to manage and grow his family business - an industrial tools trading company. Managing a small business really pushed him to go outside my comfort zones and get an exposure in all the different aspects of running a business such as sales, marketing, finance, etc. This set up a great foundation for his MBA as he was able to reflect back on the issues that he faced and how he would do things differently now after gaining those skills at Tepper.
Outside class, he loves trekking and hiking as spending time with nature really helps him unwind and relax, and Pittsburgh is a great place for that.
He is the VP of Finance for SABA (South Asian Business Association), VP of Club Initiatives at STARS ( Students at Tepper for Astronautics Rockets & Space), MBA admissions ambassador and GBA Alumni relations committee member
