Hello from a Tepper Senior!
Hello, world!
That’s one of the only things I remember from my computer science class freshman year. After that, it was all business courses, all the time.
Who am I?
My name is Tyler Waters, and I’m a senior Business Administration major. I’m concentrating in Finance and minoring in Policy and Management. I grew up in Louisville, Colorado, but I currently reside in Charlotte, North Carolina. My path to Carnegie Mellon began after I immediately fell in love with its small campus environment and excellent academic track record. I actually was split between business and engineering during my college applications – 6 to engineering programs, 6 to business programs! During my decision process, I learned that CMU has one of the best business schools in the world. After I heard I was accepted, it didn’t take much convincing for me to #TurnTartan and come to Pittsburgh.
What do I do?
On campus, I’m on both the Football and Track and Field teams, where I play Cornerback and run the 400 Meter Hurdles, respectively. I’ve been to a couple of Pittsburgh sports events too, which I highly encourage everyone to attend if you get the chance. The atmosphere at Heinz Field is always electric! I’m also the Executive Vice President of the Undergraduate Consulting Club, which I joined my Junior fall. I’ve received lots of guidance and direction from such a great club environment where I can learn from others and contribute my thoughts. I’ll be moving into the consulting space after graduation, and I’m very excited to move to a new city and experience all it has to offer. Consulting is somewhat of my “dream job” at the moment and a goal I’ve had since Freshman year, so I’m anxious to see what this new chapter has in store for me.
How do I unwind?
Whenever I can find some free time, I love catching up with my friends, both on campus and back home from high school. I spend lots of time watching sports on the couch and customizing cars on manufacturer websites as a way of procrastinating. I’m also currently writing a novel that I plan to publish by next summer! I hope that in my last semester and a half here at CMU, I can make even more friends and soak in as much of the campus and the city as I can!
