My name is Katherine Marcan, but I go by Kat. I am 22-years-old, starting my first full-time position at Accenture in November while pursuing my MBA part-time at Tepper. I grew up in the Bay Area, California, but have lived in Pittsburgh since 2016 when I started my undergrad at CMU. I graduated in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.

In my free time, you’ll find me outside (even if it’s freezing), walking neighborhoods, picnicking, or discovering cute coffee shops. I am active and love lifting weight and practicing yoga.

Recently, I’ve picked up tennis, which I play with my boyfriend, Tate, who used to be a competitive tennis player. Tate is in his final year of his undergrad at CMU and studying Electrical and Computer Engineering. (If you see us on campus, stop and say “Hi!”)

I love to express my creative side through Instagram. My account (@katmar_can) serves as my personal lifestyle blog where I share ideas on healthy living, self-care, and travel adventures. I LOVE to travel. So far in my 22 years of life, I have visited Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania (duh), Tennessee, Texas, and Washington D.C. Outside of the US, I have been to Spain, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Brazil, and Argentina (where I spend a semester of my undergrad taking chemical engineering classes in fluent Spanish). During the summer after my graduation, I planned to travel around Europe, but COVID hit and I had to change my plans.

Instead, I decided to apply to graduate school. I’ve always been interested in business and have aspirations to, essentially, rule the world as a bad*ss businesswoman. So here we are. Ready to learn valuable skills, build networks, and inspire others to elevate themselves through higher education and noteworthy experiences.

Kat is an ambitious 22-year-old, starting her first full-time position at Accenture while pursuing her MBA part-time. During her undergrad, Kat knew she enjoyed problem-solving and using her analytical skills, but did not feel confident that she would be happy long-term working in the Chemical Engineering industry. She has always been interested in business, so when chaos struck the world mid-2020, Kat decided to make the most of the situation and pursue her MBA much earlier than she was planning.

In her undergrad, she was a member of a sorority on campus, Kappa Alpha Theta. Here, she served many leadership positions, including CEO/president of her chapter. Kat has a passion for empowering strong women through their academics, professions, and even physical abilities.
